Gladiat✶r

Proof-of-concept for an alternative, more powerful Are.na client

Abstract

Gladiat✶r is an alternative Are.na client; a work in progress. – The goal of this project is to create a better user interface with more efficient and advanced functionalities for making the job of managing your channels less cumbersome.

Background

The official Are.na website is deliberately minimalistic, but it lacks some features that would make it more usable for power users. Especially keeping an overview of a large number of channels and seeing in what ways they are interconnected is difficult. Once a graph has grown organically to a certain size, it is hard to make changes to its structure. Cleaning up and reorganizing channels becomes very tedious.

Implemented features

  • Graph view: visualizes all connections between channels
  • Two-column view
    • Compact list view to show more at once
    • Drag and drop enabled between them
  • Simple search / filter syntax
  • Option to temporarily pin channels to the top of the list
  • Quickly change channel status in one click
  • Possibility to select multiple channels to apply batch operations on them
