About the course

The Master Artistic Research in and through Cinema at the Netherlands Film Academy is a unique two-year international practice driven course for a select group of filmmakers and artists with several years of professional experience under their belt. They are offered time, space and a budget to research, explore and experiment in an open-ended trajectory in which thinking and making are one. The programme privileges questions over answers, process over product, experimentation over mere execution and long term effects over short term gain…

Our role

For the assessment of the course, the NFA approached us to make their archive accessible online, and to develop an engaging way to browse their projects and activities. We developed a web-based, three-dimensional visualization of the archive, which allows users to explore the archive in an immersive way.

Interface

The main view shows all items in relation to the main categories (projects, lectures, public exposure, etc.) as well as the year. Additional entry points are provided via keywords (tag cloud), geographic location (map), and chronology (timeline). The user can navigate through the archive by clicking on categories or keywords in order to zoom in on a filtered subset, or by clicking on the items themselves, which will open a detail view with additional information.
